FVEAP KITTY STORIES

These are the stories of the cats and kittens that have received financial assistance, consultation, information or support from the FVEAP. If you would like to contribute to the treatment of a particular kitty, please let us know. Thank you.

=^..^=

~ SURVIVOR ~

This boy was brought to the veterinarian by two Good Samaritans who found him lying in the street after being hit by a car. When these women could not pay for treatment, they were faced with taking the cat to animal control where he would be euthanized.

The Director of FVEAP happened to be there at the time and offered responsibility for treatment.

This beautiful cat, who we called Survivor, recovered and went home with a member of the vet staff. (No Photo Available)

~ BAZIL ~

Bazil was a small kitten with a big problem. After he was weaned he was unable to keep any solid food down. Surgery was called for but the guardian needed financial assistance.

A group of online cat lovers came together and collected over $1,400 for surgery and care. These people, who had never met, showed love and compassion for Bazil.

As a result of this effort, FVEAP was born. Providing a safe and efficient way to come to the aid of guardians in need of assistance to provide life-saving treatment for their cat or kitten.

UPDATE: Bazil has completed an intense set of tests and they don't show any problems. Bazil is going to take a break from further tests and see if his swallowing improves as he gets older.

UPDATE: Bazil has improved greatly, has had several joyous birthdays and is now able to eat small amounts of solid food!

~ SHADOW ~

This is truly an amazing story of rescue and survival. Here is the story in Shadow's mom's own words: "I was driving home from my mom's and the road was windy and wooded. I got about halfway home and got this feeling that I had to turn around but there was a car behind me and nowhere to turn around. Besides, it was dark and I told myself I was being silly. Anyway, I got home, turned around and went back up the road. At about the same spot where I first had that urge, I saw a pair of little eyes on the side of the road. I angled my headlights, and the kitten limped out towards me and meowed. I got out and he came as fast as he could, tripping over everything, climbed in my lap and started purring, meowing and kneading me with his paws. So, he came home with me! My mom said he must have been 'calling me'".

Shadow had apparently been hit by a car and had a shattered hip. Without surgery, he would be permanently crippled and in constant pain.

UPDATE: Shadow is doing very well and recovering rapidly.

~ NOAH ~

Here is Noah's story in his mom's own words: "Noah was born on June 11th. Noah's first seizure happened over the weekend and he had a total of 8 seizures in two days. My sister and I rushed him to the vet who ran a complete set of blood work to see if anything abnormal showed up. The next day the vet diagnosed what he thought to be a portosystemic shunt, which is an extra valve leading from his liver to his heart. Noah was unable to digest his proteins in his diet and the toxins were building up causing his little body to seizure. He was put on amoxicillin and lactose, a med that would help aid in digesting proteins and he was put on a low-protein diet.

He did well for the first three days of treatment, with no seizures, but then they started up again. He now was having seizures every two hours! He was very lethargic, his eyes were a golden yellow color, he couldn't walk and he had no balance. He was still eating but because he had no balance he would fall over in his food so I had to help him stand up. The vet gave me no hope and kept telling me that he needed surgery but that it was very expensive and that I should put him to sleep.

With the help of the FVEAP, little Noah had emergency surgery the very next day! The extra valve was "tied" off and he spent the weekend in an emergency clinic where he was under constant supervision. Noah was able to come home with me on Monday! I was excited but also scared! I was worried he would have another seizure even with the surgery.

The surgery was nine days ago and Noah has made improvements every day. He loves to eat and he walks around with no problem. He cleans himself and he has started running and playing. It is amazing to see how far he has come with his recovery!"

UPDATE: Surgery was performed and Noah is being watched carefully during his recovery. This little guy needs all our hopes and prayers.

UPDATE: Noah is very healthy and happy now.

The next few hours she showed us so much love and with a broken leg still came upstairs and fell asleep between my two children.
